Background

Agnes first joined CALTA in 2018 as an Industrial Placement student. During her placement year, Agnes led the design and commissioning of an automated optical characterisation setup to investigate the behaviour of materials at low temperatures, which led to successful publications in Optical Materials Express [1,2].

Having completed her Masters in Physics and Mathematics at Loughborough University in 2020 (which also resulted in a successful publication [3]), she returned to CALTA as a full-time laser scientist working primarily on the development of EPAC. She is involved in a number of projects, including diagnostics, damage testing of optics and the development of the EPAC Pump Laser, which is based on CALTA's DiPOLE-100 technology. Alongside her work on EPAC, she is now managing one of CALTA's current Industrial Placement students.​
