The mechanical target area technicians (TAT) are primarily responsible for providing support during experimental operations. They prepare equipment and set-up the layout prior to the start of an experiment and sign off the mechanical set-up when safe for use.

During the experiment the TATs are on hand to serve the users as necessary attending daily experiment meetings to determine any requirements.

The technicians are responsible for ensuring and maintaining the systems within their target area to ensure they are operating optimally. This includes gas systems, vacuum systems and optical drive systems.
